Clinical Pipe
Protocol First
Clinical Pipe is a productivity tool for clinical research. It can transfer 30-70% of all clinical trial data from the EHR to the sponsor’s research database (EDC). Using SMART-on-FHIR, Clinical Pipe connects EHR systems like Epic, Cerner, Allscripts and Athena with industry research databases (EDCs) such as Medidata Rave and Oracle InForm. Examples of transferable data - vital signs, labs, EKG/ ECG, ConMeds etc. Double data entry is expensive, time-intensive and has an error rate of up to 9% (https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/28551007). Clinical Pipe eliminates this tedious and redundant process.
Clinical Pipe takes 2-5 hours for IT implementation and decreases data entry costs by 50-80% by removing the manual steps of locating data, printing and collating it before performing manual transcription into the EDC database. By lowering the number of hours clinical staff have to spend performing clerical tasks, they can now focus on clinical care and patient safety.
